Radek Ševčík (b. 2000, Zlín, Czech Republic) is completing his Master’s degree in documentary directing at the Film and Television Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava (FTF VŠMU). He has been involved in filmmaking since his time at a filmmaking high school. Through the poetic language and playfulness of his films, he addresses social issues – such as disrespect for otherness, the anxiety epidemic among young people, and (un)processed historical traumas.
His films have been screened at festivals worldwide, including IDFF Ji.hlava, Kassel Dokfest, Filmschoolfest Munich, BEAST Porto or Shorts Mexico, as well as at numerous queer film festivals such as Wicked Queer Boston, Mardi Gras Sydney or Beijing QFF. His short documentary Poisoned Well became the most widely screened Slovak student film of 2024, winning Best Student Short Film at Kashish PRIDE Mumbai and receiving an Honorable Mention at the International Film Schools Festival in Uruguay.
He has participated in film residencies in Taipei (Taiwan), Melgaço (Portugal) and Timișoara (Romania). Most recently, he completed an internship at the renowned Danish production company GotFat in Aarhus, where he worked as a junior producer, TV director, and dramaturge, and contributed to festival strategies.
